Based on the Book "Squirrel is Alive" by Mary Rostad

Mary Brouillard Rostad was born in Brussels in 1924. At the age of seventeen, with more “guts than brains” and only the clothes on her back, Mary joins the resistance against the German Nazis. Serving as a carrier of vital information for the Allies, Mary takes us on her journey as she travels through Brussels, France, and Spain, trying desperately to remain underground. Eventually, and by accident, she ends up in Normandy for the invasion of D-Day. Following the war, Mary eventually ends up working for the Americans in Germany archiving the atrocities of the Holocaust. There she meets her future husband, Allen Rostad from Houston, Minnesota. They marry in Brussels and she soon after follows him to the U.S., recounting her first impressions of the Midwest. After caring for her daughter following tonsil surgery, Mary decides to continue the medical training she received during the war. She finishes her nursing degree in La Crosse and begins her career at Gunderson Hospital. Reluctantly at first, Mary eventually begins telling her story about WWII, achieving national and regional recognition for her bravery and contributions to the resistance in Europe.
